To the Comrades assembled for the Bay Area Black Community Convention and to the Uhuru Movement as a whole:

On behalf of the Central Committee of Unión del Barrio we send you this message of revolutionary solidarity representing the warm embrace of your sister organization an our Bases of struggle throughout Southern California. As has historically been the case, since 1986 Unión del Barrio continues to find encouragement within your struggle to defend the democratic rights of the African working class, and we stand with you shoulder to shoulder in your resistance to police brutality, your efforts for the peopleʼs economic development, and with your campaign for worker and studentʼs rights.
We are pleased to once again demonstrate the historic and principled relationship between the Uhuru movement and Unión del Barrio. The struggles of our peoples are linked historically, geographically and politically, and the unity between our two movements is a shining example of what the fighting unity between liberation movements should be as we work to overturn this parasitic system that every day provides more evidence that the well-being of our communities exists in irreconcilable contradiction to the survival of U.S. capitalism and imperialism.
We regret not having been able to physically participate in the formal activities of the Oakland Freedom Summer Project, but rest assured that the Oakland Uhuru Movement, the International Peopleʼs Democratic Uhuru Movement, the African Peopleʼs Socialist Party, the African Peopleʼs Solidarity Committee, and the Uhuru Movement as a whole can count on your comrades from Unión del Barrio to stand with you in opposition to all manifestations of colonial/imperialist oppression, as we work in our own areas of influence to uphold the Uhuru inspired principle that states:
“Self-Determination is the highest expression of Democracy.”
Together, we share a vision of a better future here, in Africa, Nuestra América, and throughout the world.
