Prisons Destroy Families and Communities

The conference will feature two panels on police brutality and the intensifying war on our community and conditions inside the Prison Industrial Complex. We will be hearing from Aloni Bonilla, recent victim of police brutality who will give her powerful testimony and tell us how we must fight back Carolyn Torres of Chicanos Unidos de Orange County will be speaking on the lockdown of our communities using gang injunctions and how we can fight back in our own defense. Martha Esquivel will speak on the conditions of long term solitary confinement (Security Housing Unit-SHU) and other methods of long term torture and the struggle we must make. Also, she will be reporting on the hunger strike throughout California to change these conditions and the status of that struggle-what must be done.

Pedro Rios of the American Friends Service Committee will give an account of the growing “Immigration” Detention of our gente and what communities are doing to struggle against Migra/ICE terror Helena Rodriguez of Union del Barrio will give an account of forced sterilizations against our sisters in the Prison/Industrial Complex.
