MEXICANOS MUST STOP TURNING TO HISPANIC VENDIDOS AND WHITE LIBERALS FOR LEADERSHIP - WE HAVE TO HAVE THE COURAGE TO BELIEVE IN OURSELVES AND INOUR ABSOLUTE RIGHT TO JUSTICE, DIGNITY, AND SELF-DETERMINATION!
The National Raza March Against the Republican Convention Was a Giant Step Forward for the Mexicano Liberation Struggle in the Occupied Territories!
Now that the major mobilizations of August 1996 have past, as Unión
del Barrio we recognize that we must take the time to study the struggles
that came down in the months before these events. As an organization we
are required to look at everything in a political way - it is our responsibility
as a group fighting for Mexican liberation to sum things up in a way that
advances our movement, and in this case give our gente the political maturity
to see the difference between petty bourgeois hispanic vendido-ism and righteous
Raza liberation struggle.
That is the understanding behind this document. The marchas and conferences
are over, the republicanos have packed up and once again spread out across
gringolandia - while here in San Diego what is left for us? What was learned
by those involved in the Movimiento? What was accomplished by the hundreds
of Raza that marched and protested against the Republican National Convention
(RNC)?
La Unión del Barrio has been struggling for Raza liberation too
long to be unclear about the answers to these questions... Let there be
no confusion! We understand clearly that the events and struggles that occurred
in the time before, and climaxed during, our mobilizations of August 11
and 12th, 1996, represent openly and sharply the struggle between those
people which are opposed to Mexicano Liberation and those forces who are
united around Mexicano Liberation. There are some major points of this struggle
that we focus on because they most clearly expose the real role the U.S.
government, its agencies, and the hispanic vendidos play in manipulating
and pimping off of the misery and insecurity of the great majority of Mexicanos
in the occupied territories. These points are: 1) the importance of organization
and principled struggle, 2) the tremendous effort that brought about the
success of the NCMC marcha and conference, 3) the role of COINTELPRO in
1996, 4) the role of the hispanic vendido in keeping our gente disunited,
and 5) the manipulation of honest Raza by vendido democratic party pimps.
We Were Prepared For Any Movidas The Gringo System Was Going To Throw
At Us
In January of 1995, soon after it was announced by Mayor Susan Golding
that she had kissed enough republican nalga to bring the RNC to San Diego,
the Raza Rights Coalition, as the San Diego region of the National Chicano
Moratorium Committee (NCMC), (see RRC report in this issue of ¡La
Verdad!), began to hold organizing meetings towards building the anti-republicano
marcha and conference. It was at that time that the RRC and the NCMC began
to mobilize nationally for these very important events. We understood how
important this whole process was going to be and were conscious of several
facts: 1) That San Diego was an ideal place for Raza to come together since
not only is the RRC the most active independent Raza organization in Southern
California, but also that San Diego is home to La Unión del Barrio,
a leading force in the Mexicano liberation struggle, therefore our response
to the marrano gathering of republicanos could be very well organized. 2)
We knew that the gringo system and their puppets - the hispanic vendidos
- were going to do everything in their power to sabotage, and otherwise
pull apart, our efforts towards uniting our gente around Raza liberation
struggle. 3) We understood that there where going to be thousands of other
groups protesting the republicanos, and we refused to lower ourselves and
make our righteous demands of Raza self-determination and liberation equal
to those who demanded "Save the whales!," "Homosexual rights!,"
"Equality between white women and white men!," and "Clinton/Gore
in '96!" Considering these points early, we prepared for them early,
and it was this preparation that allowed us to organize the most principled,
organized, and advanced Raza liberation mobilizations Aztlán has
seen since the Chicano Power period of struggle (1965 - 1975).
On August 11th and 12th of 1996 the Mexicano Liberation Struggle in
Aztlán Spoke for Itself
The National Raza Unity Conference and the National Raza March Against
the Republican Party Convention organized by the National Chicano Moratorium
Committee (NCMC) was completely separate and distinct from all other actions
organized against the republicanos. From the get-go we moved in a totally
open and principled fashion, putting out our demands, our beliefs, and our
agenda for all people to see. On our flyers, articles, and press releases
we never hid who we were or what we wanted. In the July 1996 issue of Guerrilleros
de la Pluma (Journal of the NCMC and the Chicano Press Association)
and in the Marcha and Conference Program we introduced these events and
explained ourselves as follows...
" ...It is this Republican Party that we come to confront and struggle
against while the whole world watches. We are struggling against the Republican
Party of Pete Wilson and Proposition 187, the Republican Party of Patrick
Pig Buchannon and English Only Genocide against our cultura and our language.
We will Demonstrate in San Diego to show the Police, la Migra, the Republicans,
and the Democrats for that matter that they will not deny us what rightfully
belongs to us. That we are the original people on this continent and that
they and their system are the only "illegal aliens." We will make
the statement to these racist pigs that "We didn't Cross the Border,
the Border Crossed Us" and that our people will not let them shoot,
beat, kill, deport, and attack us without a fight.
We must be clear that it is not only the Republican Party that is our
enemy that we must struggle against in these times of repression for our
people. It is time to tear the mask off of the Democratic Party and its
network of sellouts who talk out of both sides of their mouths and try to
convince our people that they are our defenders and our only hope. The events
of history and of recent years should show us once and for all that the
Democratic Party is just as racist, just as repressive, and just as anti-Mexican
as the Republican Party. From the Clinton administration's frontal assault
on our gente with the Crime Bill, aimed at Raza and African youth to the
unprecedented militarization of the Border, to the anti-Mexican rhetoric
that rings loud through the corridors of the White House and in the "smoke
filled rooms" that house the Democratic Party leadership, we can see
the need not to be drawn into the game of voting for one party or another,
but of building independent Chicano Power in our barrios throughout Aztlán...
To be a part of this march we asked only two requirements; 1) that all
organizations be Raza oriented (free from government funding or two-party
politics) and 2) that the 8 point platform be accepted as our principle
of unity. By the time the Marcha came around, we had brought together a
group of nearly 40 organizations that united with our platform. The NCMC
events were totally independent from the U.S. Government, and every presentation
was directed towards the advancement of the Mexicano Liberation movement.
This is extremely significant because we were not accountable to any snake-in-the-grass
politicians or special-interests - what led us were true patriotic ideals
and pro-Mexicano principles... It was here that the Movimiento for Mexicano
national liberation in Aztlán spoke for itself!"
Under the Banner of justice, dignity, and self-determination for the
Mexicano community we demanded the following:
RESCIND PROPOSITION 187!
The character of this platform is undeniable! Any person who cannot unite
with this platform is either anti-Mexicano or is dishonest and has a hidden
agenda. These demands were not compromised in any way and are fundamentally
Mexicano. Self-Determination was our banner, and it was under this banner
that we achieved a victory in a practical, organizational, and political
sense.
What is very significant was that in the face of every kind of attack
from every level these events went forward!
The Gringo System Tried Everything To Keep These Events From Occurring
In the eyes of the general racist gringo population of this country our
events did not exist. Everyone from the gringo media, the justice department,
the FBI, the CIA, the SD PD, the mayors office, the RNC organizing committee,
etc. was out to make sure that every obstacle that could be used would be
used against our organizing efforts. The Counter Intelligence Program (COINTELPRO)
put into effect in the 1960's by J. Edgar Hoover to destroy/disrupt the
liberation movements of colonized people within the United States is very
much still a reality today in 1996. We saw COINTELPRO activities manifest
themselves very clearly as 1) upholding liberal "democratic party"
politics and isolating our liberation politics, 2) the manipulation of certain
Movimiento forces to disunite the liberation struggle, and 3) the near total
media black-out by the sin verguenza gringo media.
Early on, in a stupid effort by the republicanos to keep their hands
lily white from the protesters they tried to force all protesting to take
place in an area designated by them, about a half mile from the San Diego
Convention Center. In front of the whole world San Diego government officials
jumped into bed with the republicanos when they sarcastically called for
the establishment of this "Free Speech" area, and in unity with
the San Diego Police Department (SD PD) put out a statement that any groups
that did not have a police issued permit and/or did not use this "free
speech" area would be arrested! Immediately the RRC called for a press
conference and told the republicanos and the SDPD to kiss our ass; there
was no way that we where going to allow ourselves to be told if and where
we could protest. No one in San Diego was confused about who this attack
was directed against - it was against the NCMC and our demands for Raza
self-determination!
The gringo system played no small role in trying to isolate our work.
Locally the yellow rag known as the San Diego Union Tribune, which
is run by the reactionary bruja Helen Copley, did not make one direct reference
to our events! This is incredible considering we were organizing for this
over a year before the convention, held dozens of press conferences, put
out hundreds of press releases, and covered most of the major barrios of
San Diego with posters. No radio station in San Diego said a thing about
our existence. Most of the local television stations made only token coverage
of our events. That coverage that did miraculously occur liquidated our
politics by describing us as "hispanic rights protesters," and
made no reference to our demands. This media coverage placed us at the same
level as "condom man" and "cigarette butt man", and
was incomplete in that it confused the character of the two different marches
that came down. What is important to note is how several newspapers - including
La Opinion - totally avoiding our demands and organizing efforts,
in a most pig-like fashion, decided to interview racists like Tom Metzger
of the "White Aryan Resistance" for his analysis on us, and put
out that they expected "Latino riots and violence." (see week
of August 5th La Opinion) Obviously this was done to scare people
away from protesting.
We did not expect any support from the gringo media - but it soon became
clear to us that even the "hispanic media" was uniting with the
gringo in this national media blackout. El Sol, La Prensa,
El Latino, and even La Opinion avoided any information about
us, while these cowardly excuses for newspapers were all over the local
"hispanic leadership" every time they decided to have a press
conference in front of their american flags (see January-March issue of
¡LA VERDAD!). It was here that the Chicano Press Association
played a truly significant role - independently we spread the word in our
own Raza liberation press!
For months before the August events we also came under intense pressure
from the U.S. security and law enforcement agencies. It was in these months
- especially after the Olympics came to an end - that San Diego became the
most militarized city in the United Sates. The FBI, CIA, ATF, Secret Service,
the National Guard, private security agencies, and all the local para-military
agencies like the Migra, SDPD, Customs, the Military police, etc. were all
mobilized against those possible "riots." Our main organizers
were under constant surveillance and some even received intimidating phone
calls from "agencies of the federal government." We are sure that
all of these agencies reported back to their superiors in the state department
and the pentagon about how mature our movement is, and how their attempts
at chicken-shit intimidation failed miserably. We do expect to hear more
from them...
Finally, included in those forces that united against our fight for Raza
self-determination, was the mobilization of hispanic vendidos...
Today The Power Of The Hispanic Vendido Depends Directly On Disunity
Within The Liberation Struggle
For many years now, Unión del Barrio has been the most consistent
voice in the Mexicano liberation movement in tearing off the mask of the
hispanic vendido. No other organization has been as strong and principled
in its analysis and struggle against the ego-tripping and individualistic
hispanic politic. We lay out this analysis in a political way so that we
may learn from what is happening in our movement and so that others will
not fall for these same movidas. We do it to advance the liberation movement
and to isolate and expose the hispanic vendido democratic pimps who have,
and will continue to do everything to keep our gente from stepping forward
with some real struggle. Unión del Barrio does this in the spirit
of honest and principled liberation struggle, to win over those that can
be won over - away from the hispanic vendido line that for so many years
has misled, lied, deceived, and confused our gente...
All we have to do is look around us to see that there is no lack of disunity
in our movement. In San Diego, during the week of the RNC, there were five
different events being organized with four different groups doing the organizing.
What is important to understand is the different levels of struggle that
each event upheld: these levels ranged from Mexicano Revolutionary Nationalism
for self-determination all the way to straight-out-in-the-open hispanic
vendido democratic party besa-nalga politics. The first of these five groups
was the previously described RRC/NCMC National Raza Unity Conference and
National Raza March Against the Republican Party Convention that upheld
first and foremost a Raza self-determination platform. The other four events
were 1) The pilgrimage from Sacramento to San Diego, 2) THE MARCH organized
by the Coalition for Social and Economic Justice, 3) The National Latino
Leadership Summit, and 4) The Impacto 2000 March along the border.
Dime Con Quien Andas Y Te Diré Quien Eres...
There is not much we can say about this effort other than we feel badly
that it was not more of a success. What we understand as the history behind
this pilgrimage was that it was an honest effort to build a student tribute
to the historic pilgrimage of the UFW that went from Delano to Sacramento.
Originally this pilgrimage was introduced to be sponsored as a full fledged
MEChA event but failed to rally the needed support. Without a national support
base to work from, and being riddled with internal contradictions (ego-tripping
from specific individuals in leadership positions from San Diego, slander
and lies being thrown at each other, etc.) this effort unraveled into a
small group (ranging from 15 to 25) of Chicano student activists from northern
Califas that completed the long walk. These Raza students risked their skin
and their dignity as they were verbally and physically harassed by all kinds
racist punk gringos, chotas, and other anti-Raza forces.
Information about the pilgrimage was very scarce, and what we received
was generally limited to small references to it in the newspaper and a mysterious
flyer. This flyer was announcing THE MARCH as a pilgrimage from Sacramento
to San Diego in protest of the RNC and had no principles of unity on it,
nor did it say who was part of the Coalition for Social and Economic Justice.
The only things offered by the flyer were a few phone numbers and a photo
of a bunch of feet. In no way did this flyer lead anyone who read it to
believe that this pilgrimage had anything to do with Raza - the only issues
connected with the Pilgrimage were the struggle against prop. 209 and registering
people to vote.
Although this pilgrimage was closely linked to the other more sell-out
events in San Diego, there is a sharp difference between a person who has
the time, energy, and determination to walk from Sacramento to San Diego,
while for most of those "latino leadership" (hispanic cucarachas)
it was the first time they had left their air-conditioned law offices and
University EOP offices in twenty years to march for anything. We honestly
believe that if this pilgrimage would have linked up with some honest pro-Raza
self-determination forces vs. a coalition led by vendido ratas, it would
have been 100% more effective.
THE MARCH organized by the Coalition for Social and Economic Justice
Originally THE MARCH and the Coalition for Social and Economic Justice
(CSEJ) was one in the same with the pilgrimage effort, but as August approached,
and particularly after the beating in Los Angeles of Raza by Riverside chotas,
ideas for a separate march, distinct from that led by the Raza self-determination
groups (RRC/NCMC/Unión), began to be thrown out. It wasn't very long
before we heard about a separate march on August 12th being proposed in
conflict with the efforts of the Raza Rights Coalition and the National
Chicano Moratorium Committee. As more information floated to the surface
about who the hell made up this coalition, we began to see more clearly
what was happening. A serious struggle was building as The Pilgrimage left
Sacramento towards San Diego...
Over time it became clear to us that the Coalition for Social and economic
Justice (CSEJ) was being led by small group of old-timer hispanic vendido
forces in San Diego. Pulling all the strings they had available to them,
these individuals were able to gather a up a coalition of anti-NCMC and
anti-Unión del Barrio forces around them, as they began organizing
around the CSEJ. The CSEJ evolved into an openly vendido coalition, with
groups such as the National Organization for Women (NOW), an opportunist
democratic party led white feminist group; the "national" Brown
Berets, a corrupt falso organization led by David Sánchez and Jeronimo
Blanco that attacks Raza liberation fighters (see article in this issue
of ¡LA VERDAD!); and even a radical gay and lesbian group from
the Hillcrest, San Diego area, joining in this anti-Raza liberation coalition.
For many individuals in the Coalition for Social and Economic Justice
it was the first time they had taken a stand against anything in Aztlán.
This stand was on two levels - it was a stand against prop. 209 (The CCRI
or anti-affirmative action initiative), and it was a stand against the politics
of self-determination upheld by the National Chicano Moratorium Committee
and Unión del Barrio. We understand that there were many different
forces within the CSEJ, and some of these people were honest forces who
had been misled by the leadership of the CSEJ. We also understand that this
is a mature movement with many people in the CSEJ openly and consciously
taking positions against the liberation struggle and jumping into bed with
well known hispanic vendidos. They have declared their allegiance to the
gringo system and denounced the Mexicano liberation struggle and must be
exposed. It is for this reason we provide a deeper analysis of the "Coalition"
so as to expose the real roots of this group. Here is a list of important
facts we collected on this Coalition for Social and Economic Justice and
their march against prop. 209:
A main organizer of the CSEJ march had gone around Califas slandering
the work of the Raza Rights Coalition and the National Chicano Moratorium
Committee. At a unity forum in Riverside, at which members of Unión
del Barrio were present, this individual lost control of himself and hysterically
slandered our work, and in the most childlike fashion made statements such
as "Everyone works with the democratic party..." and "No
one wants to work with the National Chicano Moratorium Committee..."
We question the honesty of this vato - who claims to have gone to Chiapas
to meet with the EZLN, yet comes back to Aztlán and works not only
for the gringo oppressor (the democratas) but against the Mexicano liberation
movement. (For more information please contact La Verdad Publications)
One of our members received an indirect threat from a member of the
CSEJ saying that "you had better not pursue this" when told that
we were going to lay out a criticism of the CSEJ.
When asked why the CSEJ included a known rata organization like the
National Brown Berets, all they could say was "They are only doing
security.." We feel that if you are going to be in a coalition with
another organization you should at least be able to defend that unity.
We also understand that it was not until the National Brown Berets felt
that they had the support of the hispanics in San Diego that they decided
to attack David Rico, the Brown Berets de Aztlán, and Unión
del Barrio. (Please refer to article in this issue of ¡LA VERDAD!)
We felt it was a crime against our gente when we saw righteous Chicano
activists forced to march in unity with the white feminists (NOW) - as
the U.S. flag, "Clinton/Gore '96" signs, and the homosexual flag
were unfurled in Chicano park in a way that made them equal to the Mexican
flag and the UFW flag.
With these facts we pose several questions to the leadership of the Coalition
for Social and Economic Justice: 1) Why did your coalition never uphold
organization as an answer the problems of the Mexicano community? 2) Was
support for the democratic party a principle of unity of your coalition?
3) What was the structure of the coalition? Who was the leadership? 4) How
was this leadership accountable to the rest of the coalition and to the
participants of your march? Did you get voted in? 5) Was the main struggle
of your march against prop. 209, against the republicanos, or against the
NCMC and Unión del Barrio? 6) Who is to blame for the conditions
we find in the Mexicano community? Is it the National Chicano Moratorium
Committee? Is the reason that 187 passed because Unión del Barrio
has too much power?
We hope that the leadership of the Coalition for Social and Economic
Justice can answer these questions for us. We will happily print the response
in ¡LA VERDAD!
The National Latino Leadership Summit
The third event of the four was developed outside of San Diego. While
this process was initiated from Riverside by compañero Armando Navarro
it was quickly taken over by a most disgusting and opportunist coalition
of hispanic vendido-ism we have seen in San Diego in decades. This sell-out
love-in took place on August 13 at San Diego's 4th and B Street Concert
Hall. The groups participating in this process, which was ironically called
the National Latino Leadership Summit (The arrogance and elitism of these
of hispanic perros amazes even us - they actually proclaim themselves as
our leadership!) were the Mexican American Political Association, League
United Latin American Citizens, Mexican American Legal Defense Fund, National
Council of La Raza, the Chicano Federation, the GI forum and a whole assortment
of dead and obsolete mierda left over from the days when the our movement
was controlled by democratic party nalga-kissers and bota-lickers.
At the first May, 1996 meeting in Riverside when Armando Navarro introduced
the idea of a week long Raza unity summit in San Diego, we said he should
go forward with it. Navarro, in a principled fashion, invited us to present
our ideas to the groups present and to become part of the building process.
Although we disagreed with many things proposed by Navarro we agreed to
struggle them out in a positive way as long as democrata party politic was
kept out. At the follow-up meeting at St. Judes church in San Diego in June
of 1996, the San Diego "hispanic network" took the helm of this
whole process and even Navarro walked out before it was over. Needless to
say, we no longer participated in that process.
Also initiated by Armando Navarro was another march on August 10 that
went along the border to Border Field State Park. The NCMC and La Unión
sent delegations to this event, and La Unión was invited to have
one speaker. This was a very awkward march for several reasons: 1) it occurred
in the middle of nowhere, 2) it actually was very physically dangerous due
to the clear presence of redneck vigilante gringos (one of which even threatened
the marchers with a hunting rifle), 3) the presence of the U.S. flag at
the head of the march, 4) the presence of pro-democratic party MAPAistas
(who in fact were right in front of our delegation - it must have been awkward
for them too...) 5) the extreme length of the march, and 6) the lack of
foresight in considering how the marchers were going to get back to our
automobiles - this was a major problem because at border field state park
the marchers were totally at the mercy of external forces; we were surrounded
by hundreds of migra, park rangers, SDPD, and a general assortment of racist
inbred redneck gringos.
We want to be clear that although there were a great many things we disagreed
with in these events, we worked with the initiatives of Armando Navarro
because of his principled approach to struggle. We only wish that others
in the Movement would grow-up and stop painting us as those who are "anti-unity"
and move forward with some principled political struggle.
¡MEChistas! You Have Been Lied To! You Have Been Used! Don't
Believe The Hispanic Vendidos!
This is an extremely important section to this analysis and we uphold
it as central to the movidas of the hispanic vendidos in San Diego this
August. We recognize that the majority of the participants of The Pilgrimage
and the Coalition for Social and Economic Justice march, were honest and
righteously militant Chicano student activists who had been misled and lied
to by opportunist hispanic vendido forces, and we have passed on this information
to Rudy Acuña.
In August, hundreds of honest Chicano Mexicano students where lied to
as they yelled ¡Chicano Power! ¡Chicana Power! - all the while
marching next to gay rights activists and NOW white feminists. All that
their vendido leaders could do was smile and consider what to do next as
they posed for all the gringo press and think of how to prostitute out the
hard work, control the militant nationalism, and misdirect the righteous
anger of MEChistas from throughout Aztlán. Those responsible for
the march under the leadership of the Coalition for Social and Economic
Justice had no problem marching with the gays, the white feminists, and
the democratic party - but in every way refused to work under the leadership
and under the demands of the National Chicano Moratorium Committee.
We know that most of the unity that was built around the Coalition for
Social and Economic Justice from San Diego MEChAs was done through decisions
made by a certain group in MEChA leadership, who have some personal hang-up
against the Raza Rights Coalition or Unión de Barrio (We know this
because, if they had a political problem they would be mature enough to
let us know so that we could struggle it out in a positive way.). This small
group of students would hide information from the rest of their MEChA members,
would block information coming from the Raza Rights Coalition, would push
liberalism and vendido-ism as the only option to MEChA, and by their actions
take the stand that "it is O.K. to work with anyone/everyone - but
not with the Mexicano liberation/self-determination forces (RRC/NCMC/Unión).
This small group of MEChistas, based at San Diego State University, was
able to manipulate, jive and connive in a way, that in the end only City
College MEChA and Mesa College MEChA endorsed the RRC/NCMC march and conference.
We saw MEChistas used and abused by the "anti-Mexicano politics,"
as there was a conscious effort to isolate MEChistas from the work of the
NCMC and la Unión. A perfect example of this is how certain forces
manipulated good gente at the University of California, San Diego into revoking
the MEChA endorsement of the RRC/NCMC march. Up until that time - which
was close to summer break and immediately after a new mesa directiva was
voted in - UCSD MEChA had been more active in the community than it had
been in years. MEChistas from UCSD could be seen marching, protesting, and
making presentations and were turning out in larger numbers and guiding
more influence within the Raza Rights Coalition. This all came to an end
when the influence of one anti-RRC and anti-Unión individual took
leadership at UCSD and was influenced by forces from San Diego State University
MEChA. (For more information on this please contact La Verdad Publications.)
The role San Diego State MEChA played in this entire struggle must be
highlighted also. Throughout our efforts to build for the National Raza
March and Conference against the republicanos, we had nothing but resistance
from leading forces of San Diego State MEChA. It was here that the most
consistent work against the NCMC and La Unión was produced and it
was from here that the small clique within MEChA was born and led. We have
identified one individual as the main force behind this movida. Using his
influence over SDSU MEChA as director of the SDSU EOP office (an influence
which ranges from political pressure over MEChA activities to economic "buy-offs"
of key elements within MEChA) this individual was the main force behind
all the anti-RRC and anti-Unión activity coming out of SDSU. (For
more information on this please contact La Verdad Publications.)
We know that real MEChistas do not work in this way. Real MEChistas understand
the Plan De Santa Barbara, and would never work against community groups.
Real MEChistas would work out their differences with community groups through
honest and principled struggle, out in the open towards the goal of building
unity and advancing our gente - not with back-room-deals, slander, and chisme
- working to disunite and corrupt the efforts of community groups. As real
Mexicano community organizations, the Raza Rights Coalition and La Unión
del Barrio put out a call to all honest MEChistas to tell the democratic
party pimp hispanic vendidos to go to hell, and we ask you to unite with
the one real struggle - the struggle for Raza self-determination and Mexicano
national liberation!
¿¡Su Voto Es Su Voz!? ¡Puro Pedo!
Mexicanos must stop turning to hispanic vendidos and white liberals for
leadership - we have to have the courage to believe in ourselves and in
our absolute right to justice, dignity, and self-determination! We understand
that it is because of the democratic party and its president, William Jefferson
Clinton, that the border is more militarized than it has ever been; that
is proposing a national prop. 187; that recently signed into law a "welfare
reform bill" that will take food out of the mouths of our children,
that is putting more Raza youth in prison and more chotas on our streets,
etc. We have to understand that when the system/political power of a country
is united around oppressing Mexicans, voting only represents choosing who
is going to do the oppressing! As long as the Mexicano liberation movement
is not able to articulate its own interests then we will always be a pawn
of both parties and the hispanic vendidos. The vendidos say that we are
not able to self-determine our future - they say that the feminists, the
gays, and the democratic party know better what is good for the Mexicano
community than us!
The power of the vote under the terms of the hispanic vendidos only reflects
the power of their bosses, the rich gringo colonialists who stole our land,
regardless if they be democrat or republican. The power of the hispanic
vendido rests in the confusion and disunity of the movement for self-determination
and liberation. Hispanic vendidos are led by their own self-interests at
all times... What was it that brought them out after so many years of not
doing anything in defense of our gente? Was it the fight to save affirmative
action? Was it a righteous feeling to want to help La Raza? Or was it that
they felt that their interests were at stake? Are they afraid they are not
going to make payments on their Mercedes if their little poverty pimp programs
get cut any further? Or was it a conscious effort to keep our movement from
maturing past their brand of little chicken shit democratic party politics
and getting down with some real Mexican Power?
Some Hispanic/Latino/Mexican American Leaders even see themselves as
the next Cesar Chavez! They think that if they kiss the right asses, make
the right connections, and lie to our gente enough they will be able to
set themselves up for political office or other forms of "Latino Leadership."
We are sure that they talked down to the majority of the honest MEChistas
who wanted to push a more militant, Pro-Raza liberation line. We are sure
the vendidos did this by using a wanna-be veterano "been there - done
that" kind of attitude. We are sure that these dishonest individuals
played themselves off as if they had already paid their dues to the Chicano
movement in the 60's, and that now they are "more mature" and
know how to "use the system" to make things better for La Raza.
We have heard it all before... We say, Don't Believe a Word of It! We know
that the thing that these rata hispanics learned how to do best was to make
loads of feria by pimping off our gente's righteous struggle for freedom
and liberation!
The only event of August that was totally independent from any form of
Democratic Party/voter registration politics was the National Raza March
and Conference Against the Republican National Convention organized by the
National Chicano Moratorium Committee (NCMC). We should be ashamed that
any MEChista worked against the NCMC. We should be ashamed that anyone in
our community can be convinced that the Democratic Party has ANYTHING WHAT-SO-EVER
TO OFFER OUR GENTE!
The Sooner We Say ¡Ya Basta! the Better Off We Will Be
We hope that this article has shed light on the seriousness of the struggle
that came down in San Diego this last August. We know that our work was
a victory in that now, more than ever, it is clear that assimilationist
vendido politics are on a down turn and self-determination/liberation struggle
is growing and spreading - winning the hearts and minds of our gente. We
continue to uphold the National Chicano Moratorium Committee as our only
real vehicle towards the building of Raza Self Determination! We will continue
to organize under the banner of principled liberation struggle based on
honesty and principles of justice, dignity and self-determination for all
Raza!
