August 29, 2014 – UdB Turns 33

Compañeras & compañeros of Unión del Barrio, Supporters, Allies, and Friends:

The Central Committee extends a revolutionary greeting on this, the 33rd Anniversary of the founding of Unión del Barrio, and the 44th Anniversary of the Chicano Moratorium. We take this moment to recognize the participation and sacrifice that each of you makes to further the cause of liberation struggle.

On a day like today 33 years ago a handful of veteran activists from the Chicano Power Movement came together in the Mexicano working class neighborhood of Barrio Logan to form our organization. The feeling of resistance established by the founders of Unión del Barrio in 1981 continues to been felt throughout the barrios of Southern California and beyond.

There is a huge significance to the fact that we have over one third of a century of uninterrupted, anti-colonial, pro-liberation struggle and accumulated political experience. Today, we leverage this knowledge to secure a just, equitable, and sustainable economic and political future for our families, our communities, and our people during a time when we all suffer under the vicious assaults of this crisis-ridden capitalist-neocolonial system.

In this spirit of struggle and to help advance our political work, the Comisión de Propaganda y Difusión commemorates this day with the official launching of our new organizational website and online social media presence. These online resources should help to more dynamically communicate our liberation struggle online. Of course this new format is a work in progress, with new content added constantly and the Spanish version developed as soon as the current information is stabilized. We ask that users please offer feedback and let us know of errors or missing information.

On this, our 33rd anniversary, we call on our membership to continue efforts to consolidate our existing Bases of struggle, and help in the creation of new ones. We should all work to expand our community presence and bring more people into organized and collective struggle. ¡Feliz Cumpleaños Compas!

¡Hasta La Victoria Siempre- Venceremos!

Comité Central, Unión del Barrio
