Unio\u0301n del Barrio, a community based political organization, that for over 30 years has organized Raza workers to struggle for our self-determination and liberation from US imposed borders, is organizing a bike ride \u201c20 millas por 20 an\u0303os de Resistencia\u201d from Larsen Field Park in San Ysidro to Chicano Park in Barrio Logan. The purpose of the bike ride is to denounce the escalating war on our people, and to reject all laws and policies that for the past 20 years- since the implementation of NAFTA and Operation Gatekeeper- have militarized our barrios, systematically killed thousands of migrants at the border, has separated millions of families, and has incarcerated tens of thousands of workers in concentration camps called prisons. All of this, while making billions of dollars for large corporations.<\/p>\n

This war on Mexicans and other Raza- under the border control strategy known as Operation Gatekeeper in San Diego, was put into place by then President of the US, Bill Clinton in October of 1994. Since then migration to the north has increased ten-fold due to the neo-liberal economic policy known as NAFTA, which displaced Mexican farmworkers from their land and forced our families to migrant north in order to find work and survive. NAFTA allowed capital and merchandise to cross the border freely, but condemned human beings to some of the most violent and vicious forms of exploitation in Mexico, and criminalized workers for trying to find work in the US.<\/p>\n

Since the implementation of both the economic and border policies in 1994, Unio\u0301n del Barrio has been consistent in our resistance to this assault against Raza workers and our families on both sides of the imposed border. Twenty years later, after more than eight thousand deaths, and millions of deportations and separated families, the border community of San Diego will come together on Saturday October 4, 2014 to build class and political consciousness for our self-defense, to organize our people into struggle and to build an economic basis for our work, we invite our supporters to ride with us on October 4, 2014, this will be a fundraising event to sustain our community organizing and work.<\/p>\n

Unio\u0301n del Barrio, una organizacio\u0301n poli\u0301tica basada en la comunidad, que por ma\u0301s de 30 an\u0303os ha luchado por la auto- determinacio\u0301n y liberacio\u0301n de la clase trabajadora mexicana dentro de los EE.UU. estara\u0301 organizando un paseo en bicicleta “20 millas por 20 An\u0303os de Resistencia” desde Larsen Field Park en San Ysidro al Parque Chicano en Barrio Logan. Este paseo de bicicleta va denunciar y rechazar todas las leyes y poli\u0301ticas que en los pasado 20 an\u0303os, desde la implementacio\u0301n del NAFTA y el Operativo Guardia\u0301n han sido impuestas en nuestra comunidad de forma sistema\u0301tica; matando a miles de migrantes en la frontera, han separado a millones de familias, y han encarcelado a decenas de miles de trabajadores en los campos de concentracio\u0301n llamados \u201cca\u0301rceles\u201d en los EE.UU.<\/p>\n

Esta guerra en contra de nuestra Raza-bajo la estrategia de control fronterizo conocido como el Operativo Guardian en San Diego, fue puesto en marcha por el entonces president \u201cdemocrata\u201d Bill Clinton, en Octubre de 1994. Desde entonces, la migracio\u0301n hacia el norte ha aumentado diez veces debido a la poli\u0301tica econo\u0301mica neoliberal conocida como NAFTA, que desplazo\u0301 a los campesinos mexicanos de sus tierras y obligo\u0301 a las familias migrar al norte con el fin de encontrar trabajo y sobrevivir. NAFTA permitio que el capital y mercanci\u0301as cruzara la frontera libremente, pero condeno\u0301 a los seres humanos a algunas de las formas ma\u0301s violentas y crueles de explotacio\u0301n en Me\u0301xico, y criminalizo a los trabajadores por tratar de encontrar trabajo en los EE.UU..<\/p>\n

Desde la implementacio\u0301n tanto de las poli\u0301ticas econo\u0301micas y de la frontera en 1994, Unio\u0301n del Barrio ha sido constante en su resistencia a este asalto en contra de los trabajadores y nuestras familias en ambos lados de la frontera. Veinte an\u0303os ma\u0301s tarde, despue\u0301s de ma\u0301s de ocho mil muertes y millones de deportaciones y familias separadas, la comunidad fronteriza de San Diego se reunira\u0301 el sa\u0301bado 4 de Octubre para organizar a nuestra communidad y defender nuestros derechos.
