Worker’s World Party Solidarity Statement on the 35th Anniversary of Unión del Barrio Celebration

First I want to say it is an honor to speak at the 35th Anniversary of Unión del Barrio. For many years Workers World Party and Unión del Barrio have had a strong fraternal and comradely relationship.

How important this relationship is should not be underestimated. At a time when unity against imperialism is crucial, those class conscious and revolutionary forces who understand the need for unity are critical for the victory of our people, and our class.

From the time of WWP’s first organizational appearance in Southern California 25 years ago, we have admired and supported, to the extent of our limited resources, the important work of Unión del Barrio. High points of our cooperative efforts have included the Tijuana conferences in solidarity with Cuba, and the workers of Latin America, and the May Day mobilizations in San Diego and Los Angeles.

This year is an election year, where the forces of racism and reaction have been incited by the campaign of the demagogue billionaire Donald Trump. The campaign of Hillary Clinton is not much better, as her war mongering actions, history of racism, and repression are all well documented. She was key to the ouster of President Manuel Zelaya in Honduras. She is responsible for atrocities in Syria and elsewhere. And her party, under the administration of Barack Obama, has carried out more deportations than any other administration in US history.

This all means that we must prepare to organize and fight back like never before.

We commend you on your 35th anniversary. Your consistent and long standing work in your community, your international solidarity positions, and your actions are to be respected and admired.

We are proud to stand with you, side by side, in the struggle to end capitalism, and build socialism.

On behalf of the Workers World Party National Committee, the Moorehead/ Lilly Presidential Campaign, and Campaign Manager Teresa Gutierrez, Congratulations!
