Compa Tommy Flanagan – ¡Presente!

We have struggled for over 35 years within the belly of the beast, and we’ve come across many allies who fight for justice along our side. Over time, there are some that truly stand out, with compa Tommy Flanagan being one of them. We honor Tommy Flanagan for standing in solidarity with the Mexicano people in San Diego Califaztlan. His spirit will live on within the daily struggle that will continue. Rest in power comrade! We will win!

From memorial gofundme page:

“…On behalf of our big bro Tommy Flanagan, we are setting this fundraiser up for his Memorial Service and Living Memorial. Tommy suffered a massive heart attack on Tuesday January 10th while out taking a walk. He was given CPR by a man who saw him lying on the sidewalk and was rushed into surgery where they removed a 100% blockage in his heart. Unfortunately, there was significant brain damage and we had to let him go last night, January 14th at 10:15pm.

Tommy was an amazing person, a loving son, a loyal brother and the best middle school teacher. He was “that” teacher the students would confide in, they loved and trusted him and he loved them back 1000% more. He was passionate about his beliefs and compassionate to everyone. He established an after school Yoga program at his school and helped so many students heal and release stress at the end of the day with this program. He recently returned from Standing Rock where he worked hard to help the water protectors and was looking forward to getting back with the protectors this spring and summer.

The funds raised for Tommy will be used for his memorial service and also we would like to set up a Living Memorial of a tree and/or bench at the school where he taught so his former and current students can have a place to reflect and remember him. Remaining funds will be used to fund the Yoga program he established and donated to Standing Rock.

Thank you so much for your support. As Tommy always told his students when the bell rang, “Go tell someone you love them today!” Fly high big bro and float swiftly, River Peace baby. <3
