NO EVIDENCE! NO PROOF! NO CASE!
UHURU 3 VICTORY OVER U.S. GOVERNMENT ATTACK!
On behalf of Unión del Barrio, we unite with our comrade, Chairman Omali Yeshitela, leader of the African People’s Socialist Party. This is also our position with regard to comrades Penny Hess and Jesse Nevel of the African People’s Solidarity Committee. Uníón del Barrio answered the call to provide unwavering support for the Uhuru 3, and demand the end of the U.S. government’s attacks against the Uhuru Movement in general. Immediately after the U.S. Government raids against the Uhuru Movement, through to today’s verdict, we stood firm with the goals of the Hands off the Uhuru Movement! Hands of Africa! Campaign. In fact, the Uhuru Movement and Unión del Barrio have maintained a 40-year fraternal relationship of unbroken principled unity that is unprecedented in the history of people’s anti-colonial liberation struggles.
Unión del Barrio is an independent Raza Liberation, anti-imperialist organization founded 43 years ago by veterans of the Chicano Power Movement of the 1960s-70s. Our movement was violently repressed through both public and covert operations directed primarily by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Counter-Intelligence Program (COINTELPRO). These attacks were part of the United States’ colonial assault on organizations that dared to engage in struggles for self-determination against settler colonialism. Unión del Barrio’s roots in those movements and our long-standing relationship with the Uhuru Movement continue to provide us with the political clarity to reject the colonial economic exploitation imposed on our people since the European invasion of these lands which began in 1492 and the occupation of northern Mexico by U.S. imperialism in its 1848 war of aggression, allowing us to center colonialism and imperialism as the principal enemies of humanity.
These are the same enemies that launched the vicious attacks against Chairman Omali, the African People’s Socialist Party, and the leadership of the African People’s Solidarity Committee. These comrades were targeted by the settler colonial state precisely for standing by their political principles for over six decades, for leading an unrelenting struggle for the self-determination of African people worldwide, and for providing colonized people around the world a shining example of how we, too, can stand against colonial violence. What unites our organizations is the clarity and understanding that the US settler colonial state was built on the backs of African people and the genocide of Indigenous People, including Mexican people. Every day, we experience this subordinate colonial repression – our people are exploited daily for their labor, constantly conditioned to live in fear and under deplorable and unacceptable socio-political conditions. This is why Unión del Barrio stands with the Uhuru 3. When settler colonialism attacks one of us, they attack all of us! Touch one – Touch All!
The U.S. government and the FBI’s attack on the APSP was an attempt to silence the liberation struggle of African People. The jury’s verdict today makes it clear that the bogus charges, ridiculous allegations, and reactionary slander were nothing but another attempt by colonial powers in their unrelenting pursuit to destroy the African Revolution as they attacked W.E.B. Dubois, Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., Fred Hampton, and Huey P. Newton. Today, however, the outcome was different. With a feeling of comradely relief, we can say that despite their best efforts, the U.S. government has again failed to silence the Uhuru Movement!
Unión del Barrio is honored to stand with our comrades during this victorious historical moment and declare:
Hands of Uhuru! Hands of Africa!
Hands off the African People’s Socialist Party!
¡Hasta La Victoria, Siempre – Venceremos!
Unión del Barrio
