The Chicano community will celebrate the 45th Anniversary on Saturday, April 25, 2015 (a historical day) of world renowned Chicano Park that is listed on both the CA Register of Historical Resources, and the National Register of Historic Place.

Tommie Camarillo, Chairperson of the Chicano Park Steering Committee (CPSC), the stewards of the park for the last 45 years announced that, “The keynote speaker for this year’s event celebration will be long time Chicano activist Committee on Chicano Rights Chairman, Herman Baca.”

Baca stated that, “It is an honor for me to speak, where the Chicano community has gathered for the last 45 years.” According to Baca, “The historical significance of Chicano Park is that it was created out of struggle, sacrifice, a takeover, and the occupation of La Tierra Mia (our land) thru the self-determination of the Chicano community; this after state and city politicians deceived the community by planning to construct a California Highway Patrol station.”

The celebration of Chicano Park is also a remembrance of the many persons, past and present that struggled and have passed, continue the struggle in the movement, Historical Murals, Folklòricos, and Low Riders, etc. More importantly, it is a political statement (from both sides of the border) that in the spirit of El Tratado de Guadalupe Hidalgo, and deceased Chicano warrior, Reis Lopez Tijerina, “our ancestors lands are not forgotten,” concluded Baca.

The day’s events include Music, Aztec Indigenous dance, Ballet Folklòricos, Low Rider display, art workshop, speakers, etc. Baca is scheduled to speak at 12:15 p.m. at the KIOSCO.
